Bridging precision and compassion
If the patient’s first impression is fear, the design has already failed its first test.
The cystoscope is a critical diagnostic tool, yet its current design often amplifies the anxiety patients already feel when facing invasive procedures. This project reimagines the cystoscope through the lens of human-centered design, exploring how visual form can reduce perceived intimidation without compromising clinical precision.
Our approach began with a question: How can design reshape the emotional experience of medical procedures? By considering the cues that contribute to fear, including sharp geometry, cold materials, and unfamiliar interfaces, I sought to create a device that communicates trust. The resulting redesign emphasizes warmth and intuitive interaction, positioning comfort as a forefront consideration.
