Personalized design through medical image reconstruction.
This Mitral Valve Sewing Cushion project showcases how medical imaging can advance patient-specific device design. Using MRI data stored as DICOM files, I reconstructed a 3D heart model in 3D Slicer and segmented the mitral valve region. This anatomical model served as the basis for a custom sewing cushion design in Fusion 360, which was tailored precisely to the patient’s cardiac geometry. By aligning the mitral valve with individual anatomy, the design aims to improve procedural accuracy and long-term fit compared to generic replacements.
